Mother Teresa

There are many dedicated souls in the world. No doubt, Mother Teresa is one of them. Mother Teresa is a divine name which brings to one’s mind a small thin woman, Clad in a white sari, offering love and kindness to one and all especially the very poor. She sacrificed her whole life for the cause of the poor and the distress. She was born on Aught 26, 1920 at Skopje in Macedonia. Her father was an Albanian. She was the youngest daughter of her parents. When she was a very young girl she came to India. At first she began   teaching at girl’s school in Calcutta. She was moved to see the sufferings of the sick and the dying destitute on the streets of Calcutta. In 1952 she established a home named `Nirmal Haridy’ for the dying and destitute people. In 1953 she started an orphanage for the helpless, the handicapped. She dedicated herself to provide shelter to the homeless, food to the hungry and medical aid to the sick. She is lovingly called a saint, for only a saint could do what she had done. She is known as a nun. For her benevolent works she was awarded many prizes and won Nobel Prize for peace in 1979. This nun left this world on 5^th September 1997.
