A Rainy Day
A rainy day generally occurs in the rainy season. It is a day when it rains all day long. It is a dull and gloomy day. The sky is overcast with thick clouds and the sun is not visible. It rains incessantly and in torrents. No one can go without an umbrella. Water stands on the road and streets here and there. Passers-by walk along with shoes in hand and clothes folded up to knee and elbow. They get drenched and have to stop midway. Sometimes they have the risk of a fool slip and a fall. The poor suffer much on a rainy day as they cannot go out in quest of work and cannot earn their lively hood. Most of the students fail to go to school and if some of them go at all, they got wet on the way. So classes are not usually held and it is a day of great joy to them. Other people also stay idly at home. The cattle keep standing in their sheds and bellow for fodder. The vehicles pile on with difficulty splashing water on all sides. Young children float a paper boat on the water accumulated on the streets. So very often they catch a cold. Thus a rainy day is a sunless day of dullness and inactivity and is not pleasant at all.
